A beautiful antique Victorian family locket fashioned in 15ct gold back and front with highly detailed engraving across both sides depicting foliate motifs and forget me nots. It opens at both sides revealing engraved rims and windows in the centre that preserve a lock of hair belonging to a previous owner.
Forget me nots are a symbol of love and remembrance. They were a popular motif in the Victorian period and popularly featured on lockets containing images of loved ones as it signified, that they will never be forgotten and remain forever close to the wearer’s heart.
The piece dates to the late 19th Century and has developed a lovely smoothness with age. It’s in excellent condition and has room for two further windows to be added to create four compartments to store beloved family photographs or your own lock of hair.
